Quite fascinating. I have seen crows in my neighbourhood stand their ground on sidewalks against dog walkers. :-)

Shannon - Thanks for the link! Very interesting that she has been "adopted" by the ravens. I love to sit outside and watch them fight with the hawks--it can go on a long time.

Maybe the reason people don't like them is because they're so loud. I wanted to go down a trail last summer that was very steep. The tops of the trees were level with the entrance to the trail, and there was a crow's nest in it. Those crows starting cawing so loud I could not get my horse to go down the trail for anything!! I had to go around. I respect them. :)Lindahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14303523299217618526noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8766983761847636077.post-89812638807820224612010-12-18T22:43:13.505-05:002010-12-18T22:43:13.505-05:00Hi everyone!

Well it is a smart way to teach the younger one to fly and sounds like it learnt pretty quick - humans are a lot slower! ;)Ninahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02632143091614116055noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8766983761847636077.post-37627987350894400102010-12-16T20:02:49.509-05:002010-12-16T20:02:49.509-05:00Great post! I kept hearing noises, at first I thought it was a kid. I looked up and there were dozens of crows flying around, and it was so beautiful to see those black figures against a snowy sky.
They eventually ended up on one large maple, but each one chose a branch on the very top. It was quite the sight to see.

I remember studying them when I was painting them, and they are also considered protectors.pinkglitterfaehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04767922852249380772noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8766983761847636077.post-50618505936656030792010-12-16T14:42:57.882-05:002010-12-16T14:42:57.882-05:00I happen to like crows too. They actually have facial recognition of people. The study was done with humans in masks I believe and some of the participants were mean to the crows and some were nice. The crows reacted accordingly. Very interesting smart birds.

The only real incident I had up close with them was when I was taking an early morning walk on a deserted street. In the middle of the road was a band of crows facing off with a group of huge turkeys. I don't know what they were fighting over but just as I was trying to figure out how I was going to get past this melee, thankfully a car came along and scattered them.Grey Horse Mattershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05837575441967937196noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8766983761847636077.post-32083992010883261592010-12-16T14:32:19.893-05:002010-12-16T14:32:19.893-05:00I loved this post!
