We have been using a salt soaks and then Iodine and sugar in a diaper, etc. It drew some of the infection out, but we are still dealing with it. :-(Wolfiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04743943656869294788noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8766983761847636077.post-3194348249349134492013-07-10T12:30:05.282-04:002013-07-10T12:30:05.282-04:00Thanks, Landers!!Thanks, Landers!!Wolfiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04743943656869294788noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8766983761847636077.post-69797915045822933392013-07-09T23:00:50.173-04:002013-07-09T23:00:50.173-04:00Sounds like you manage to ride all you can even wh...Sounds like you manage to ride all you can even when Gem is on injured reserve. Good Job. My last abscess problem was with our Mare Sister. A friend called me with a poultice recipe which I used and the mare was sound in 2 days when the farrier came out to check. The recipe is: mix Epsom salt with iodine into a past. pack into sole/frog of hoof and wrap a disposable diaper and fasten with duct tape and/or vet wrap. I keep the mare in the stall for a couple of days as well. Thanks for visiting my blog and for the nomination. equineobsessedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02864025309491378767noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8766983761847636077.post-55970857311764965562013-07-04T03:52:40.737-04:002013-07-04T03:52:40.737-04:00I hope Gem is 100% soon! An old instructor once told me that it's good for a rider to put 'your bum on many backs' - I guess it widens your experience and boosts your confidence. Well done Wolfie! Riding a variety of horses makes you a thinking rider in my opinion. You have to figure each horse out and adjust your riding accordingly.
