Weird and Wonderful and Awkward.....

Weird:

My normal routine when tacking up is curry, brush, feet, saddle.  I have found over time that adding a bit of saliva to my finger tips aids in grasping my 100 lb (I may be exaggerating) saddle when I lift it over my head.  So, why is it that I can lick my fingers, which even though I have given them a dust on my pants. are covered in dirt and whatever dirt and manure mixture that came out of Gem's feet, but cringe when someone doesn't wash their hands after they use the bathroom?

Wonderful:

LA got an Australian Cattle Dog puppy 8 months ago.  He's a very clever dog and will be a great companion for LA when her only child leaves for college in the fall.  Tuesday, the puppy's mother came for a visit.  They hadn't seen each other since he left her.  They were so happy to see each other and it was wonderful to watch them together....playing and loving each other non-stop.

Awkward:

Jean asked if I would help her clean Stu's sheath.  In making our arrangements, I sent her an email saying "we will do them both" and "you bring the K-Y"......hmmm

Weird:

Is it just me, or have you noticed that when you are grooming your horse's hip and croup area, he/she passes gas?

Wonderful:

The front paddock is under renovation right now.  The finished product will be huge - double in size!  You should have seen the boulders that were pulled out of the ground....   :-)

Awkward:

A couple of weeks ago, while out on a trail ride, we entered the forested area from a different less-traveled opening. The two riders in front of me were on smaller horses (of course!) and the tree branches weren't much of an issue for them.   I, on the other hand, had to bend right over Gem's neck to avoid having my head smashed by the branches.  I actually had to stay like that for a while.  Eventually, we came to a clearing and as I started to sit up, I was jerked back down to Gem's neck.  The front of my bra had become hooked on my saddle horn and my t-shirt had sort of become wrapped around the horn.  I yelled out to my friends to wait because I had to "unhook my bra"........  Sigh.

Weird:

LA told one of the other boarders that if she didn't call her farrier and get her horse's feet done immediately, she was going to call ours and have them done and charge her a service fee on top of having to pay for the farrier.   This boarder considers herself to be quite a horsewoman, but seems completely oblivious to the long, split feet of her horse. Why is it some people just don't get it.....

Wonderful:

I received my Sunbody hat a month ago and LOVE it.  I got the same style that Raeta wore in the movie "Buck". Does it make me a better rider?  I don't know because I wear a helmet when I ride.....  :-)

Weird:

I don't understand how the type/font when I am composing my blog post looks fine while editing, but changes size after I post it.  Drives me crazy.  What's with that???

 Wonderful:

My natural hair colour was black, but when I hit my 40's and it started greying, I started colouring it a medium brown.  I stopped colouring my hair a year ago.   One more hair cut and I will be silver!  I love it!!  Strangely, the hair on the back of my head is still pretty dark.  I cannot tell you how many MEN have told me that they love it.  ;-)

Awkward:

The lady who does my nails is 6 months pregnant.  I didn't notice.  She was going on about how the stairs in her 3-storey condo were going to be a PITA and I didn't get it.  Oops.   In my defence though, she's always in a white smock and she sits behind a table.....

Wonderful:

My Niece wants to come for a visit and she wants to bring a friend!  They will be coming for a couple days at the end of the month.  Yipee!!

Have a great weekend!!

  1. What a fun post!
Re: Cleaning Sheaths - I found a hilarious description a while back. I added on a post here: http://livingadream2.blogspot.com/2010/06/clean-as-whistle.html
Re: Silver Hair - it looks beautiful! My hair is darker in back, too. I don't understand that!
Re: Type font - Blogger can drive me crazier with the fonts and spacing than telling a guy to pee in the corner of a round room.
Re: Bra caught - been there before - yes, awkward. Almost as bad as hopping off and having my jacket caught on the horn. I was stuck somewhere between the saddle and the ground trying to undo the zipper!
Have a good day. Thanks for the giggles and the uh huh's of agreement!

    1. Very funny sheath cleaning post, Dreaming! I am pleased that I am not alone when it comes to blogger type font and bras + saddle horns! Thanks for your kind comment about my silver hair. :-)

  2. Love the new header!
I'm gray haired too, and darker in the back. Growing it out was Awkward, but now I love it.

    1. Thanks! That is My Niece on Gem. I love that picture. Growing out my hair was awkward for me, too, but I have no regrets. :-)

  3. Yes on the gas passing. When we had access to a horsey massage therapist, she mentioned the gas releasing spot.

Last year my 14 year old border asked me to show her how to sheath clean.

Haven't caught the bra because I ride english, but did get my leg (clad in leather full seats) stuck on the cantle of my brand new saddle as I very awkwardly tried to dismount while at a clinic with a BNT. He whispered (not that quietly) "it's a good thing her horse is so quiet..." I nearly died of embarrassment.

    1. That is so strange about the gas releasing spot! Hmmm...a 14-year old asking about sheath cleaning. That would be a bit awkward, but I think it's great that she wanted to do it. :-) Leg stuck on cantle while at clinic....yep, that would be embarrassing.

  4. Love it!
I agree with the whole nasty hands while being with the horse is okay, but not washing after using the bathroom is gross!
When I pick Shy's feet, especially her back feet, she passes gas. I swear she does it on purpose.
And blogger is always messing up my spacing, too. Ugh!
    Awesome wonderfuls!!
And I am glad I don't have to clean a sheath, but if I did, I would do it to the sheath cleaning song for sure! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39tJ_DYeM_Y

  5. I love this too! And your header is great.

You had me laughing about the bra experience, never had that happen because of the English saddle. I did however, once try to dismount and got my foot stuck in the stirrup. So here I was with one foot in the stirrup, one on the ground and the horse decides to walk off. I hopped along beside him until I could dislodge my foot.

I hate to say this but I only have a few gray hairs on my temples. I wish it would either turn all gray and be done with it. I use a rinse but it never lasts. Tried growing it out recently but got annoyed after 3 months and redid it. I'll bet the silver looks fantastic.

Really liked your post. Bet it was cute when mom and pup were reunited.

    1. I am visualizing you hopping along side one of your tall horses (Erik?). LOL!

You only have a few grey hairs at your temples??? That doesn't seem fair! I have to admit, I am really liking the silver. ;-)

GHM, it was soooo adorable to see the mother and pup reunited. I could have watched them all afternoon.

  6. Fun post! I'm the same with hands, not washing after the bathroom is disgusting. Or people who invite you for dinner and they taste it to see if it's ready and then continue stirring with the same spoon... Yuk! But I'm happy to finish my apple after one of my horses suggested sharing. I've had a bra that came undone during a jumping lesson once, it's years ago but I'll never forget the experience!

    1. Yes, the "tasting" thing!!! I have a friend who will actually put her fingers in a dish to pull out a taste!! Yuk!!! Your bra came undone while you were jumping?! ha ha ha !

  7. Thanks for the compliment, Story! I hid my grey for a long time, but when it ends up that the majority of your hair is grey, it makes having to colour it a more frequent activity. :-) Now, that's "weird" that any work around the back end triggers gas....

  8. I laughed when I read the part about your bra getting hooked on the saddle horn- does that make me a bad person? Maybe I'll make amends by saying that I think your hair looks very nice.

    Have fun with your niece!

  9. There are so many great things to say about this post! the plethora of awkward situations, how obnoxious when blogger has a tantrum and won't publish what it looks like on the editing screen...

you are so great and I appreciate your presence in the blog world so much!

  10. Woo-hoo! More K-Y adventures ... bra getting hooked ... no one can accuse you of not knowing how to live!!! *lol*

Know what you mean about blogger, and it ALWAYS acts up either when I'm in a hurry or when I want to go to bed!

How gorgeous are you??? Even though it's only half a pix. Love the colour of your hair.

The mummy-puppy reunion must have been sooooo cute!
Great news about your niece -- have fun! By the way, love the new look blog.

    1. I suspect that one of these days, between the branches ripping my shirt, bras getting stuck on horns and Gem grabbing my clothing, I am going to end up 1/2 naked one of these days!! lol I have to say that I am really loving my silver hair...appreciate your kind words. :-) The puppy reunion was so sweet. Someone at the barn commented on it too, and said that cats forget their babies as soon as they are weaned, but dogs never forget their babies. Interesting, don't you think?

    2. That IS interesting about dogs and cats with their babies; doesn't surprise me though as cats, generally speaking, take their independent streak so seriously!
